Touch down at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where your adventure begins the moment you step off the plane. You’ll be greeted with a warm smile (and a freshly brewed cup of coffee) before transferring you to your hotel in Arusha, a vibrant gateway city nestled beneath Mount Meru.
Take the afternoon to settle in, freshen up, and shake off the flight. There’s no need to rush today. Whether you choose a short walk in the garden, a refreshing swim, or simply a long shower followed by a nap, this time is yours to reset and prepare for the week ahead.
In the evening, we’ll come together for a relaxed welcome dinner and group briefing. It’s the perfect chance to meet your fellow adventurers, ask all your burning questions, and get excited about what’s to come. Over delicious local dishes and a cold drink (or two), we’ll set the tone for a journey that’s immersive, meaningful, and full of unforgettable moments.
Karibu Tanzania—welcome to a trip that might just change your life.
Accommodation: Ilboru Safari Lodge
Meals Included: Arrival snacks and dinner.
Lace up your boots—it’s time to get moving. This morning we’ll hike to the stunning Materuni Waterfall, winding through lush forest and the fertile farmland of the Chagga tribe. Expect mountain views, fresh air, and a glimpse into daily life in this beautiful corner of Tanzania. (Yes, there will be banana trees. No, you can’t smuggle one home.)
By midday, it’s time to caffeinate—with a twist. You’ll learn how coffee goes from bean to brew, the traditional way, with singing, dancing, and some impressively energetic bean pounding. It’s hands-on, joyful, and a little bit messy. You’ll earn your cup of coffee—and your hearty local lunch.
In the afternoon, we’ll head to the spectacular Osiligilai Maasai Lodge, nestled between Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro. Here, you’ll be welcomed by the Maasai community for a unique, immersive experience. Sleep in a traditional Maasai-style hut—don’t worry, it has a few modern comforts—and soak in the views, the culture, and the serenity.
Today is about connection. To nature. To people. And to the deep, grounding rhythm of Tanzanian life.
Accommodation: Osiligilai Maasai Lodge
Meals Included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Early riser or slow starter? The choice is yours. You can greet the day with a sunrise over the mighty Kilimanjaro, an unforgettable moment worth the early alarm, or enjoy a well-deserved lie-in and a leisurely breakfast. No judgement here.
After breakfast, we’ll visit a powerful community initiative led by local Maasai women. Learn how they’re preserving traditions, supporting families, and building a future on their own terms. It’s inspiring, eye-opening, and a chance to engage in meaningful conversation beyond the usual tourist path.
Next, we hit the road toward Karatu, with a stop in the colourful town of Mto wa Mbu, famous for its local market bursting with crafts, spices, and stories. This is your chance to practice your Swahili (or your haggling skills) and soak up the energy of everyday life.
By late afternoon, we’ll arrive in Karatu, a peaceful town on the edge of the Ngorongoro Highlands. Relax by the pool, sip something cold, and breathe in the fresh highland air, tomorrow, the real wild begins.
Accommodation: Eileen’s Trees Lodge
Meals Included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Today, we rise early and head straight into one of the world’s most breathtaking natural wonders: the Ngorongoro Crater. Formed by a collapsed volcano, this vast, green bowl is a wildlife haven like no other. It’s one of the only places in Africa where you can spot all of the Big Five in a single day… if nature’s feeling generous.
Keep your eyes peeled for rhinos grazing in the mist, lions lazing in the morning sun, and flamingos dotting the soda lake like pink confetti. With luck, you’ll see hyenas skulking, elephants strolling, and warthogs doing their best not to trip over their own legs. It’s dramatic, it’s diverse, and it’s a place that leaves a lasting impression.
After a picnic lunch in the crater (watch out for snack-thieving birds), we’ll continue on to the legendary Serengeti. As the landscapes open up and the horizon stretches endlessly, you’ll feel the shift...the wild is calling.
By evening, we’ll arrive at our lodge, perfectly placed for game viewing and stargazing. Sleep tonight comes with a soundtrack of distant roars and rustling grasses.
Accommodation: Kenzan Luxury Tented Camp
Meals Included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Wake up to the sounds of the Serengeti, maybe a lion’s low rumble, or the distant whoop of hyenas wrapping up a night of mischief. Today, we dedicate ourselves entirely to the wild. No rush, no fences, just you, your guide, and one of the greatest ecosystems on earth.
The Serengeti is where nature shows off. Endless golden plains, acacia-dotted landscapes, and a cast of characters that includes elephants, giraffes, leopards, cheetahs, and those impossibly photogenic lions draped over rocks like royalty.
We’ll break for a proper hot lunch served out in the bush—yes, in the middle of nowhere, and yes, it’s safe (ish). With the breeze in your hair and wildlife all around, it’s the kind of picnic that makes you forget every sad desk lunch you’ve ever had.
After lunch, we continue exploring. Maybe we’ll follow a cheetah on the hunt, stumble upon a herd of elephants with babies in tow, or simply sit and watch the plains breathe.
By sunset, we return to the lodge with dusty boots, full memory cards, and stories already trying to outdo each other.
Accommodation: Kenzan Luxury Tented Camp
Meals Included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
It’s our final morning in the Serengeti, so if there’s anything we haven’t spotted yet, now’s your chance. Maybe that elusive leopard in a tree? Or a pride of lions on the move? With the early light casting golden tones across the plains, it’s a magical time to be out in the wild.
After breakfast and one last game drive through these legendary landscapes, we make our way south to Ndutu, a quieter corner of the Greater Serengeti ecosystem that comes alive during the calving season. Think of it as the Serengeti’s best-kept secret… with extra baby animals.
We’ll arrive in time for an afternoon game drive, and if luck is on our side, you’ll witness one of nature’s most heartwarming (and nail-biting) spectacles: newborn wildebeest taking their first shaky steps while predators lurk nearby. It’s the circle of life in real time: raw, real, and unforgettable.
By evening, we settle into our Ndutu lodge, surrounded by open plains and starlit skies. The wild isn’t done with us yet.
Accommodation: Sero Tented Camp
Meals Included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
We’ll rise with the sun for one final game drive in Ndutu. The early morning light paints the plains in gold, and with luck, we’ll catch the wildlife before the heat settles in, perhaps a cheetah stretching after a hunt, or a baby wildebeest wobbling alongside its mother.
It’s our last chance to soak in the rhythm of the wild. Take it slow. Breathe it in. This is the kind of morning that etches itself into your memory forever.
After lunch, we begin the journey north toward Karatu, retracing our route through open plains and highland villages. There’s a different kind of energy now, part satisfied, part sentimental, as we swap stories, spot the occasional giraffe en route, and reflect on just how much we’ve seen.
Tonight, we’ll gather for a special farewell dinner. It’s a celebration of the adventure we’ve shared, the people we’ve met, and the footprints we’re leaving behind, on each other and this incredible land.
There may be tears. There will definitely be laughter. And if the mood strikes, maybe a toast to doing life a little more adventurously.
Accommodation: Eileen's Tree Inn
Meals Included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
For our final morning, we travel back in time, thousands of years, to be exact, as we meet the Hadzabe tribe, one of the last remaining hunter-gatherer communities in East Africa. Living in near-complete harmony with the land, their way of life offers a rare and humbling insight into human history, resilience, and simplicity.
This isn’t a show—it’s an invitation. A chance to learn directly from the Hadzabe about tracking, tool-making, and what it means to live without the noise of the modern world. It’s raw, real, and likely unlike anything you’ve ever experienced.
After this meaningful farewell to the land and its people, we’ll begin our final drive back toward the airport. Bags may be heavier, hearts certainly will be.
We’ll say our goodbyes, until next time, with sand in our shoes, new friendships in our pockets, and stories that will be told for years.
Safari njema, fellow adventurer. Your journey doesn’t end here, it just gets passed on.
Meals Included: Breakfast and lunch.

Frequently Asked Questions
Most visitors to Tanzania require a VISA. It is possible for most nationalities to get a VISA upon arrival. However, it is also possible to get an eVISA online. Please check the Tanzania Immigration website to check what rules apply to your nationality.
If you opt for the eVISA, please note the system is notorious for failing. It is possible that you don’t get a confirmation number, or that your eVISA doesn’t come through in time. If this happens, hakuna matata (no worries). You will be able to resolve this by joining the VISA on arrival queue. If payment has been taken for your VISA but you have not received it, please make sure you bring proof of payment.
Getting a VISA on arrival is easy. You will need to fill out a landing card, which you will take to the VISA counter queue. Border control will check it for you and stamp you in. You then go to the payment counter to pay your $50, and so long as there are no issues, you are in!
Wait times can vary from 5 minutes to 40 minutes depending on what other flights have landed and the number of other passengers there are.
Please check the Official Tanzania Immigration website for information relevant to your nationality.
The tour starts and ends at Kilimanjaro International Airport. If you wish to extend your trip, we can also arrange to pick you up or drop you off in Arusha. Please talk to us to arrange this.
There are a number of flight options depending on where you are coming from. Skyscanner or Google Flights is the best bet for working out the best route. We are more than happy to offer guidance and support in finding the best flights for you, but please note that, ultimately, we would not be responsible for your flight connection.
You may also want to consider flying into Nairobi, Kenya. Nairobi has much better connections with direct flights from London, New York and other major cities. From Nairobi, you can take a shuttle bus (we recommend Riverside Shuttle) to Arusha. Of course, this involves a lot more adventure, but if time allows, it is worth the effort and will generally save you money too.
I always recommend reading your government’s advice before travelling to a country, as these highlight potential hazards their citizens might experience. For example, British citizens should read the advice of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
Tanzania is considered a safe country, with most problems occurring in large cities, which we will not be visiting during this trip. Safaris are considered some of the safest activities to do in Tanzania.
The Serengeti National Park has over 2 million ungulates (hoofed animals), 4,000 lions, 1,000 leopards, 550 cheetahs, and 500 bird species! Add to those a further 364 species, and we can guarantee you will see a lot of animals! We just can't guarantee which!
When you arrive, you will be provided with an “I Spy” book so that you can tick off all the animal species you see during your safari adventure!
We use specialised long-wheelbase safari Landcruisers for all of our Tanzania safaris. They have a pop-up roof to allow you to stand and watch or capture the wildlife. This design also gives you the flexibility to move around the vehicle to get the best vantage point.
There will be a maximum of 6 guests in each truck, so you are always guaranteed a window seat.
All of the lodges and tented camps we have chosen provide a selection of both local and international cuisine. During our trip from Serengeti to Lake Natron, we will also stop at a local BBQ joint to experience local cuisine at its best.
We can cater for all dietary requirements. We will confirm any requirements both during the booking process and upon arrival to ensure your tastes and needs are catered for throughout the trip.
We always recommend visiting a physician before travelling to any new country, as they will be able to provide the best advice based on your own personal circumstances. However, if you are looking for general advice, then the Fit to Travel website is always a great resource.
It is worth noting that if you are transiting through a country that is at risk of yellow fever transmission, you need to show a Yellow Fever certificate. It is also worth noting that there is a risk of malaria in Tanzania, and therefore we recommend taking antimalarial tablets.
This Tanzania Safari Tour is designed for open-minded, adventurous travellers who are eager to go beyond the surface of a destination. It’s for those who crave meaningful, culturally immersive experiences – connecting local tribes, learning firsthand about human-wildlife conflict, and witnessing the awe of the Great Migration alongside hidden gems that few travellers ever see.
If you are someone who wants to be challenged -emotionally and intellectually- and leave with a deeper understanding of Tanzania, this journey is for you. It’s not just about ticking highlights off a list (although we do that too); it is about exploring with purpose, reflecting on your own beliefs, and embracing moments that could change the way you see the world.
If you are ready for a journey that goes beyond the ordinary, we’d love to have you join us!
We like our tours to be intimate, and for that reason, there will be no more than 12 guests on this tour and no more than 6 per vehicle to ensure everyone is comfortable.
Yes! There is so much to do in Tanzania that I would encourage you to stay longer! Whether you want to hike Kilimanjaro or relax on the beach in Zanzibar, we can always help you plan your extension.
No! Our trips attract predominantly solo travellers, so you will be in good company!
We will allocate rooms based on what we believe will be the best fit; however, once the tour is underway, there are usually very obvious friendships that are formed. Swapping roomies mid trip is never a problem.
And if you would like your own room, then you can always request this at an extra charge at the time of booking.
Tanzania has two distinct seasons: dry season and rainy season. September is still the dry season, and therefore, you can expect dry, sunny days with temperatures in the high 20s during the day. Mornings can be fresh, especially when we are at altitude, but the sun will soon warm up.
We recommend packing layers for the early morning game drives and a light raincoat just in case it does rain, although you would be very unlucky!

All the lodges apart from Osiligilai Maasai Lodge have WiFi, although it can be hit and miss as many are in very remote areas.
I would recommend getting data so that you can remain connected throughout the trip. You can either do this by buying a local SIM card in Arusha, or by pre-purchasing an eSIM so you are connected from the moment you land (this is my recommendation). Airalo and Firsty are my go-to choices.
This trip is run in conjunction with Inspired Ventures. Inspired Ventures connects inspirational people, charities, and companies with communities around the world to make a positive impact through travel.
